Salter, book designer and calligrapher was born and educated in Germany. He emigrated to the United States in 1934. He did book design for German and American publishers, taught book design at the School of Library Service of Columbia University, Cooper Union Art School and New York University. He created book jackets and designs for publishing houses such as Simon & Schuster, Knopf, Basic Books, Bobbs-Merrill, Random House, LIttle Brown and Viking. From the description of George...
